735 Hic mihi nescio quod trepido male numen amicum
Here I don’t know which divinity badly friendly [i.e. unfriendly] took [my]

Nor did I look back at the lost one or turn back my mind before

through the night and I survey with eye(s):
755 horror ubique animo, simul ipsa silentia terrent.
the horror [is] everywhere for my soul, at the same time the silences themselves
terrify.
756 inde domum, si forte pedem, si forte tulisset,
Thence I bring myself back home, if by chance, if by chance she had carried her
foot [there]:
757 me refero: inruerant Danai et tectum omne tenebant.
